Learn about the new features and functionality in the latest version of PayWithIt
The latest and greatest version of PayWithIt® is now available. PayWithIt is TrustCommerce’s secure mobile payment acceptance solution available through the Apple app store and is compatible with all iOS devices. PayWithIt enables merchants to securely capture payments via encrypted card swipe or manual entry. It is ideal for merchants who would like to accept credit cards, signature debit, and ACH on the go and is in use today in a variety of environments, such as non-profit, healthcare, parking, retail, education, and others.
I recently sat down with PayWithIt Product Manager, Arian Maybod to learn about what sets this new version apart. Arian has managed PayWithIt since inception and is supporting and managing the current release.
TC: PayWithIt recently celebrated its birthday. Can you share with us what sparked PayWithIt?
AM: Mobile payment acceptance is really growing. The latest research estimates $1 trillion in global transactions by 2015 [1]. Forrester Research projects approximately $90B in mobile transactions by 2017 [2].
When we launched PayWithIt, we wanted to give our merchants the opportunity to be at the forefront of this growing trend, leveraging the advantages that mobile payments bring to the payment mix—convenience, speed, cost-savings—with the security for which TrustCommerce is known.
How does the new version differ from the previous version?
PayWithIt 2.0 is all about customization and ease of use. With this release, we have handed more power to the merchant. No other mobile payment app in the marketplace comes with this much flexibility. The user interface is a primary example.
Accepting a payment with a mobile device needs to be fast and easy. Listening to customer feedback, we redesigned the interface for greater ease of use. The previous version of PayWithIt came with a fixed set of input fields for data entry on the payment screen. This version gives merchants total freedom to select their desired data entry fields. In essence, they can design their own “mobile virtual terminal” however they want. There are only three required fields; everything else is customizable!
What if merchants have industry specific information they would like captured with the transaction?
One of my favorite new features is the ability for merchants to create multiple discretionary fields, for example invoice number, customer number, policy number or location. Discretionary fields allow merchants to pass additional data that is meaningful to their business with each transaction for ease of reporting and reconciliation.
Merchants can completely manage their discretionary fields, including adding predefined values and/or making them required or not required. They can even set default values. This makes it easy for merchants to capture the desired data.
Security is the foundation of all TrustCommerce solutions. Tell us about the security features PayWithIt offers.
To date, PCI Security Standards Council (PCI SSC) has not released a formal program certifying mobile POS payment applications on multi-purpose mobile devices. However, they released a set of guidelines and best practices for mobile payment security. PayWithIt complies with or exceeds these recommendations.
Just like the original PayWithIt, payment security comes first. From day one, when TrustCommerce released PayWithIt, we only supported encrypted card readers. Sensitive card data that is entered on the mobile device is immediately encrypted at the point of swipe. Furthermore, no sensitive information is stored or retained within the PayWithIt application.
With the new version, we continue to support only secure, encrypted card readers providing a superior advantage over other mobile payment solutions. Support for additional mobile card readers will be coming out this year. The new readers provide different price options with the same commitment to security, durability and functionality.
In addition to encryption, PayWithIt leverages iOS Keychain Services to further secure sensitive data elements such as user name and password.
Additional security information can be found within the PayWithIt® for iOS Devices User Guide, which will be available with the new release.
How does the new version of PayWithIt accommodate multiple users with different roles in an organization?
For starters, with the new version of PayWithIt, users can now log in using their TrustCommerce Customer ID (CustID) and password. This means with a single set of log in credentials, users can access multiple TrustCommerce solutions. One less password to remember!
Administrators can also extend TC Vault access controls to the PayWithIt application. When users log into the PayWithIt app with their CustID and Password, they will experience the same settings and behavior as the TC Vault. If a user only has permission to process a sale transaction, and not process credits or voids, that will hold true for PayWithIt as well.
PayWithIt also includes multiple location support. If a user works out of two healthcare clinics, the user can select from the drop down which location they are working from to properly attribute the transaction.
From growing start-ups to enterprise merchants, we think this release has something for everyone.
